30 Days of Giveaways ~ Day 28

There are only 3 days left in the 30 Days of Giveaways! Remember that your bonus prize this week is an engraved copy of The Valley of Vision, a gorgeous and deep collection of Puritan prayers.

Yesterday my church had a community picnic and what we call Saturday Night Alive--a concert series on the last Saturday of each month. We enjoyed the stylings of a local vocalist, and I always so enjoy these concerts. Usually I'm the music at church, so it's always a blessing to get to sit back and listen. =)

So a simple question for you today:

What's your favorite kind of music?

I'm a sucker for the Big Bands of the 20s-40s. When not listening to that, it's usually classical for me. =)

  6. More often than not, I'm inclined to listen to traditional jazz, and I am also a big fan of Big Band music! Hard to pinpoint a true favorite genre, as a musician, but Jazz is so special, and I can always be in the mood for it. :)

  7. I've heard great things about this book!

My favorite music ranges from current Christian & country back to Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera & Wicked, & then over to big band, swing, the Rat Pack, but Sinatra is THE tops for me.

  8. I've got a paper copy of "The Valley of Vision" and use it frequently in my quiet times. Beautiful, meaningful, moving prayers. The engraved copy would be precious!

I love many types of music, but one of my favorites that I always go back to is folk music from the late 60s. At one time, I probably owned every record the New Christy Minstrels put out, and I've been able to find digital tracks for most of their songs. "This Land Is Your Land," "Green, Green," "Five Hundred Miles," "The Dying Convict" . . . the list just keeps going on!

  9. Hallo, Hallo Ms. White! :)

Music is one of my favourite bits of living because you can change what you listen too based on your moods! :) I listen to an ecelctic mixture of music which includes:

One of my favourite Beatles song was sung by Patti Lupone as the theme for "Life Goes On"; the song is "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da". And, I love how their songs are being used as catalysts for story-telling such as the impressive premise of using "Hey Jude" as inclusion for "Across the Universe" which is an art house film that I would love to finally see this year!

Honestly, there are so many of their songs I adore, as that whole generation is the music of my life -- including Motown and the music of the 50s! I grew up on 3 decades of music: 1950s, 1960s, and the 1970s. So many lovely songwriters came out of the late 60s and on through the 70s,... as well as classical music; Simon and Garfunkel hold a special place in my heart, specifically "the Sound of Silence" which I unexpectedly had the chance to hear Garfunkel sing LIVE! :)

I am finding vocalizations of modern singers with a hinge to the ones we love and know by heart even today,... it takes a bit, but they do come forward! :) As I love exploring the world of indie singer/songwriters, musicians and bands via CDBaby! :)

I shifted into roots, folk, early 20th century sounds {Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Fitzgerald, Armstrong, Bigband, etc}, indie singer songwriters, ambient soundscapes {great for writers!}, bluegrass, classical opera, and Celtic ballards,... yet I remain rooted in my early music appreciations, because they led me to sound for motion picture and Broadway as well as rock opera! :) I do like to maintain a pulse on classic and modern rock, British Pop, and the indie artists who give soulful and thoughtful ballards and songs that put a smile on your face and light up your days!

    Blessings,
    Andrea
